A firsthand account of a husband choosing Silver Lace Memory Care by Primrose for his wife

Tom and his wife, Jean, had been living at a competitor. But her Alzheimer’s disease had been progressing and requiring more care, causing strain on Tom. So much so, that Tom was experiencing acute lower back and hip pain daily, impacting his daily routine and sleep schedule.

He began to search for a Memory Care community for Jean. After touring Primrose and even enjoying a meal there, he knew it was time to have the kids check it out too, as they would soon be home for Christmas. Beforehand though, he sat down to crunch the numbers. Even though Memory Care rent is higher than their former assisted living community, they were fortunate to have a very generous nursing home insurance policy. When the numbers were all crunched, Tom discovered that Jean’s Memory Care costs were within $20 difference. This was the confirmation he needed to know it was time to move Jean.

As Tom spoke with his daughter about his thought process on the move for her mom, the daughter shared that her brothers and her had been planning to talk to him about it being time for her to move as well. They had witnessed what the toll of taking care of their mother had been on their dad’s emotional and physical health.

Tom credits his faith along the way of this journey as well. From the Christian RN that first toured him around Primrose to the insurance almost exactly covering the cost to his children planning to have ‘the talk’ with him. He truly felt guided by the Hand of the Lord, further alleviating any guilt he had about moving Jean to Memory Care.
