Great Podcasts for Seniors

Great Podcasts for Seniors

New to podcasts? Great news! You’re in for a real treat. Affectionately coined “radio’s younger sibling”, podcasts allow you to tune into a variety of topics that pique your interest—whenever the mood strikes you.

Unlike radio shows, podcasts are pre-recorded and typically cater to a particular genre, theme, or industry. That means whether you like cooking, gardening, brain-teasers, or a bit of comedy, you have endless shows and episodes to choose from and a variety of platforms to stream them on.

If you own a smartphone, laptop, or tablet, for example, you can tune into podcasts using Apple or Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, iHeartRadio, Audible, Scribe, or Pandora.

Episodes can range in length from an hour to as little as 5 minutes. This makes it easy to incorporate new episodes into your routine, so you always stay entertained—and learn something new—while you’re cooking, cleaning, or walking outdoors.

The Kitchen Counter

Ready to take a cooking class in your own home? You might think the idea of listening vs. seeing an instructor puts you at a disadvantage. But The Kitchen Counter podcast proves this theory wrong.

During each episode, host Roger walks…well…talks you through a mouth-watering recipe, giving you step-by-step instructions in real time. That means it feels like you have an expert chef personally guiding you through each recipe, as you create delicious dishes for friends and family.

Recipes are easy to understand and follow along with. When Roger isn’t showing you how to flex your culinary muscles, he’s sharing interesting facts about your favorite—or not so favorite—ingredients to expand your cooking knowledge and tool belt.

We have lived with our dog Duke at Primrose since it has opened about 3 years ago. Being able to live in our home for many years was a gift but we knew that it was time to downsize and move to a smaller home. What we enjoy most here at Primrose is being part of a community. The people are wonderful, the activities are both educational and fun, and the food is amazing! Living so close to people keeps us both healthier and happier. We can come and go as we please, and take part in the activities that we wish to do. I think the advice I would give to others that are thinking about moving is to stop thinking about it. Moving to Primrose was the best thing that we have ever decided to do!

I lived here since they opened in 2018. Professionally I did a lot of clerical work for the city, county, and state. When I was younger I worked at Moon Beach Church Camp, where my parents were camp cooks. I also enjoyed playing the ukulele while my Mom played the piano at the camp.

After my husband passed away my place was too big for just me and I needed to downsize. Although I was apprehensive to move, being alone was lonely and I needed to be around people.

People are kind here and like a family. I look forward to simple things here like coffee time in the morning, the noon meal, and Happy Hour! There is always so much going on from ice cream socials, book club, and bridge, to just simply walking outside. A little secret that I want to share with the world… the staff is awesome, they really care!

Primrose is a high quality residence where my grandmother currently lives. I’ve enjoyed my visits and my Grandma loves the environment and community, participating in many of its activities. The location is clean and the team there seems very friendly and caring. The pub is very cool and we’ve had impromptu family gatherings there.
